In “Traces”, Vorgia uses the city of Athens as her canvas. Looking at it closely, as in search of forensic evidence, she looks for traces of events, deep marks or scars that are engraved upon the city’s surfaces. She focuses on this evidence of violence, conflict, history and death, that is, the cruel testimonies of the current political and social unrest that have taken place in Athens since the beginning of the financial crisis. Those traces in the urban landscape are tough recollections creating a palimpsest of facts, which, no matter how much we would perhaps like to forget, keep appearing unexpectedly all around us; inside us.  The political and the social become physical, altering the building material of the city; affecting and transforming matter.
